Bhoothalingaswamy Temple, Bhoothapandy.

Bhoothapandy is situated at a distance of 7 kms from Nagercoil. The village derives its name from the Bhoothalingaswamy Temple situated there. The temple is a very ancient one believed to be constructed by the king Pasum Pon Pandyan who was the son of Bhoothapandyan. The lingam is believed to be a "swayambhu" one.
According to Kerala Mahatmiyam the Pandiyas invaded Kerala with an army of Bhuthathans (spirits) and they were defeated by the warrior sage, Parasurama. The boundary of Kerala and Pandya kingdoms were fixed at Bhoothapandy as a compromise.
Route: Trivandrum - Nagercoil - Vadasserri - Putheri - Erachakulam - Easantimangalam - Thuvarancaud - Bhoothapandy
The ride is a pretty scenic one through the interiors of rustic Tamilnadu.
